Mumbai, March 25 (IANS) India will soon have its own version of the Emmy Awards - the television equivalent to the Oscars in the US - Kunal Dasgupta, CEO of Sony Entertainment Television, said here Tuesday.

"We will hopefully have the Emmy's next year in India. We are working out the modalities of the event," Dasgupta told IANS on the sidelines of Ficci-Frames 2008, a global convention on the booming entertainment and media industry.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) is hosting the three-day event.

Though Dasgupta declined to give a timeframe for the awards, he said the function, whenever held, would be of international standards.

"We don't want to hurry up matters," he said.

The Emmy Awards are an annual ceremony to honour excellence in the television industry in the US.
