Indira Gandhi comes alive on new TV show
| New Delhi, July 22 (IANS) The trials and tribulations in the life of India's late prime minister Indira Gandhi will come alive on the small screen as a new series based on her will be launched soon on Hindi entertainment channel 9X. "I feel privileged and proud to announce that we are bringing a major and unprecedented series titled 'Indira Gandhi' to television. It will be based on the story of the iconic, inspirational and extraordinary lady whose fate was entwined with the future of a billion people," Indrani Mukerjea, founder and chief executive officer of the channel, stated in a release. Shot in Hindi and English both, the series will trace the political icon's life as a daughter, wife, mother and leader. However, the actress who will be playing the role has been kept under wraps right now. Mukerjea added: "Our aim with this series is to be more dramatic and inspirational in order to present a life story that will captivate all viewers." Former member of parliament Uttam Singh Pawar, who will be closely associated with the project, stated: "I am happy to be involved with this project and will extend my complete cooperation and support to the channel for the creation and success of this series. I believe it will be a tribute to the great lady". Indira Gandhi, daughter of India's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, transformed from a gifted young girl to an iconic and inspirational visionary. Gandhi's bodyguards assassinated her in 1984. |
