'Singh Is Kinng' to be screened at Toronto film fest
| Toronto, Aug 20 (IANS) The Akshay Kumar-starrer "Singh is Kinng" is among the 20 "special" films that will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival beginning Sep 4, which will also see the premiere of Deepa Mehta's "Heaven On Earth". Preity Zinta, Akshay Kumar, Nandita Das and Anees Bazmee from Bollywood and former cop Kiran Bedi are among the 500 international stars and special guests who have been invited to the fest. The comedy "Singh is Kinng", which also stars Katrina Kaif, was one of the 12 movies and two special presentations added Tuesday to the films being showcased at the 10-day event. The festival will also feature works of Shekhar Kapoor and Mira Nair in "New York, In Love You", which is a medley created by weaving together 12 films by internationally reputed filmmakers. Apart from the world premiere of Mehta's "Heaven on Earth", where Preity plays a repressed woman in Toronto, the director's "Sam And Me" will also be showcased at the fest as part of a presentation called "Dialogues: Talking with Pictures". Mehta will discuss how "Sam and Me" helped launch her career in the early 1990s. The film is the story of Sam Cohen, a cranky older Jewish man, and Nichol, the Indian man who is hired to take care of him. It brings to the screen their warm but complex relationship across the ethnic divide. The film festival that ends Sep 13 will showcase a total of 312 films. |
